17th September 2023
Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Jeremie Frimpong played a vital role in helping Bayer Leverkusen secure a hard-fought draw against reigning champions Bayern Munich on Friday evening.
In a highly competitive match during the fourth week of fixtures, the encounter ended in a 2-2 stalemate after an intense 90+6 minutes of play. Frimpong, who has been linked with a potential transfer to Manchester United, started the game at the Allianz Arena and put in an impressive 82-minute performance.
The match kicked off with Bayern Munich taking an early lead, just seven minutes into the game. Edmond Tapsoba's clearance attempt from a Leroy Sane corner inadvertently deflected the ball into the path of Kane, who calmly headed it into the net at the far post.
However, Bayer Leverkusen quickly found their footing and began creating opportunities for themselves. The equalizer came from a brilliantly executed free-kick from a central position. Grimaldo delivered a powerful strike that sailed over the wall and found the top corner of Sven Ulreich's net.
The intensity continued in the second half, with Jeremie Frimpong getting a significant chance to put Bayer Leverkusen ahead. Grant Xhaka played an incisive pass to Frimpong, but Ulreich denied him with a crucial leg save.
In the 86th minute, Leon Goretzka scored to give Bayern Munich the lead once again. However, Bayer Leverkusen was awarded a penalty in added time, which Exequiel Palacios calmly converted to secure a valuable point for his team.
After the game, Jeremie Frimpong took to his official social media page, where he tweeted, "We keep growing," accompanied by a fist pump emoji, reflecting the positive spirit within the team.
Bayer Leverkusen's next league fixture will see them facing Heidenheim, and fans can expect another exciting encounter as the team continues to progress.
