The Junior Doctors’ Association of Ghana (JDA-GH) has announced a nationwide withdrawal of services starting Tuesday, October 7, 2025, in protest against prolonged salary delays, stalled postings, and what it describes as ongoing unfair treatment by the government.

In a statement signed by President Dr. Louisa Afia Nkrumah and General Secretary Dr. Rhoda Wun-nam Amadu on October 2, the Association disclosed that over 200 junior doctors have worked for between 10 and 14 months without receiving salaries.

The statement further revealed that salaries of some medical officers who were previously on the government payroll have been suspended without explanation, compounding their financial difficulties.

Additionally, the JDA said more than 800 medical officers have been left in limbo for 16 months, awaiting their official postings despite multiple engagements with the authorities.

“Despite goodwill shown towards the government, no solutions have been offered. The continued exploitation of junior doctors will no longer be tolerated,” the statement read.

Service Withdrawal Schedule

  • October 7–9: Withdrawal of all outpatient services

  • From October 10: Withdrawal of emergency services until further notice

  • Inpatients: Will continue to receive care until discharged, but no new admissions will be accepted

The Association placed full responsibility for the disruption of healthcare services on the Ministry of Health and the Government of Ghana, and urged swift intervention by stakeholders to avert a deepening crisis in the public health sector.
