Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko have reportedly received a cheque of $150,000 from the Ministry of Youth of Sports following their participation in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.
According to Sikka Sports, the Porcupine Warriors received the said amount as promised by the ministry on Thursday morning.
The decision to provide financial support to Kotoko forms part of the government’s policy to assist Ghanaian clubs in continental competitions, particularly teams that qualified to the group stage of both the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup.
Clubs that reach the group stage of the Champions League will receive $200,000 with $150,000 for the Africa’s second tier clubs competition.
Ghanaguardian.com understands that several local corporate bodies are also planning to contribute to the financial package as part of their social responsibilities.
Asante Kotoko have been impressive in this year’s CAF Confederation Cup, having reached the group stages for the first time since 2008.
On wednesday, the Kumasi based outfit defeated Zesco United 2-1 to record their first win in Group C, sending them on three points, same as all the clubs in the group.
