Kotoko triumph over 10-man Nsoatreman with win at Len Clay Stadium
3rd October 2024
Asante Kotoko secured their second victory of the season, defeating Nsoatreman FC 1-0 at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Wednesday.
The match, originally postponed due to Nsoatreman’s involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup, was a tense encounter, ultimately decided by a single goal.
The decisive moment came in the 47th minute when Elvis Kyei Baffour rose above the defense to meet a well-placed cross from Dauda Saaka, heading the ball into the top left corner of the net.
This marked Saaka’s second consecutive assist, following his contribution in the 1-1 draw against Berekum Chelsea last weekend.
Kotoko controlled much of the game, enjoying 55% possession and registering 18 goal attempts, compared to Nsoatreman’s 45% possession and just four attempts.
The Porcupine Warriors also dominated in shots on target, outshooting their opponents 6-1.
Nsoatreman's hopes of a comeback were severely hampered when midfielder Daniel Amoo was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in the space of eight minutes, leaving his team with 10 men for the remainder of the match.
The victory pushes Kotoko up to second place in the league standings, now just one point behind Medeama SC, who maintain a perfect record with three wins from three matches.
Asante Kotoko will next face Accra Lions at home this Sunday, while Nsoatreman, currently languishing in the bottom three with only one win, will look to improve their fortunes in their upcoming clash against Legon Cities.
With their continental commitments now over, Nsoatreman will focus on climbing the league table.
