Lightning strike kills woman and four-year-old son in Asante Mampong

A 29-year-old woman and her four-year-old child have lost their lives after a lightning strike during a heavy rainstorm at Akyeremade, a community within the Asante Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The deceased woman, identified as Victoria, was reportedly gathering pieces of charcoal with her two sons when the sudden storm broke and lightning struck their location.

An eyewitness account indicates that the lightning killed Victoria and her younger son on the spot. Her elder son, aged seven, survived the incident but sustained injuries.

Despite his injuries, the boy was able to recount what had happened and guided residents to the exact spot where his mother and brother had collapsed.

He was immediately taken to a nearby health facility, where he is currently receiving treatment and is said to be responding well.

The bodies of the woman and her four-year-old son have since been deposited at the morgue for preservation and further procedures.

Residents of Akyeremade described the tragedy as heartbreaking, noting that the victims were engaged in a routine daily activity when the sudden rainstorm turned fatal.
