President John Dramani Mahama briefly broke protocol during a Good Friday service in Accra when he asked his military aide to take a seat, prompting laughter and applause from the congregation.

The moment occurred at the Good Friday Miracle Service held at Black Star Square on April 4, 2026.

The event was organised by the United Denominations Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches and led by Dag Heward-Mills.

While addressing worshippers, the President noticed his Aide-de-Camp, Abdul Wahab Issah, standing behind him in line with standard security protocol. In a light-hearted gesture, he paused and urged the officer to sit.

“Oh, soldier, you can’t sit down. I’m very safe here. You sit down. Sit down, please,” he said, drawing giggles from the audience.

Although the officer hesitated, the President insisted, assuring him and the congregation that he felt secure in the environment.

“He’s doing his job. He wants to protect me, but I’m telling him I’m with my family,” he added, prompting cheers.

The brief exchange highlighted the relaxed atmosphere at the service, which brought together hundreds of Christians for prayer, worship and reflection on the significance of Easter.

Beyond the moment of humour, President Mahama delivered a message focused on sacrifice, unity and national renewal. He urged Ghanaians to embody the values of the season—love, forgiveness and compassion—and emphasised that national progress depends not only on policies but also on individual integrity.

He encouraged citizens to remain hopeful despite current challenges, drawing parallels between the crucifixion and resurrection as symbols of resilience and renewal.
