Mahama mocked for proposing 'local players' for Black Stars revival

Former President John Mahama has come under fire on social media for suggesting the formation of the Black Stars with local players to ensure the team's revival.
In a viral video on social media, the former president said the Black Stars' performance would improve with his proposal of the Black Stars being formed with a nucleus of local players.
Former President Mahama said if elected as President again, he will ensure that the Black Stars will be made up of largely local players, who will be asked to stay in Ghana and play together for a long time, so that they will understand themselves and represent the nation, with a few additions from foreign-based players.
However, Mahama's proposal has been ridiculed by Ghanaians on social media, with many saying the former President is ignorant of the realities of modern football and how players have rights of movement. Others also said Mahama does not understand the state of Ghana football and how it is the dream of every Ghanaian player to move out of the Ghana Premier League for better contracts abroad.
While some commentators were more vicious in their mockery of Mahama, describing him as "the new coach of the Black Stars," others said the former President was desperate to return as President of Ghana and would promise anything to get votes.
