Majeed Ashimeru linked with a move to KRC Genk for Anderlecht
9th December 2025
Ghanaian midfielder, Majeed Ashimeru made his long-awaited return to competitive football over the weekend, featuring for RSC Anderlecht’s U23 side in their 2–2 draw with RWDM Brussels in the Belgium Challenger Pro League.
The 28-year-old midfielder came on as a substitute in the 63rd minute, marking his first official appearance since May 31, 2025, when he played in Ghana’s 4–0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in the Unity Cup third-place match.
The former Red Bull Salzburg and St Gallen midfield dynamo was tipped to leave Anderlecht in the summer but failed to secure a move, even in the dying minutes of the European deadline day. Declared “surplus to requirements”, he was frozen out of the senior squad. His U23 appearance underscores his determination to stay sharp ahead of the January transfer window.

According to Belgian outlet SMS News, Ashimeru is strongly linked with a move to KRC Genk, a fellow Jupiler Pro League club.
- A switch would end his five-year spell at Anderlecht.
- His current contract runs until 2027, but both player and club are reportedly open to a January exit.
- Joined: Summer 2021
- Appearances: 129 (all competitions)
- Goals: 9
- Assists: 6
For Ashimeru, this is a chance to revive his career at a club that is already competing in the UEFA Europa League and doing well in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. For Genk, it is an opportunity to add creativity and experience to their midfield and for the Ghana national team, a potential boost in form and confidence ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
