24th June 2024
Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru has surprised fans by shedding his trademark dreadlocks, unveiling a new appearance in a recent social media post as he reported for pre-season training with Anderlecht.
The fresh look garnered attention from supporters, who generally approve of the change, noting it suits him well as he prepares for the upcoming season.
Ashimeru, visibly happy on his return to training after clearing medical tests, joins Anderlecht amidst a rigorous pre-season schedule.
The club is set to face strong opponents in friendlies, including SC Braga of Portugal, Germany's FC Wolfsburg, and FC Metz, crucial matches to prepare for the upcoming campaign.
The midfielder endured a challenging previous season in Belgium, marred by injuries that limited him to just six appearances.
Starting with a muscle injury, followed by a mid-season leg issue, and later a combination of muscle and leg problems, Ashimeru spent a significant 154 days on the sidelines.
Despite these setbacks, his direct and dynamic style of play remains highly valued when he is fit and available.
Jesper Fredberg, Anderlecht's Sports CEO, acknowledged Ashimeru's distinctive playing attributes but expressed concerns over his injury record.
With his contract expiring at the end of the upcoming season (2025), Ashimeru aims for an injury-free campaign to make a substantial impact on Anderlecht's ambitions.
