Man gifted me GHS100K for taking photos with his children– Kalybos

Ghanaian actor and comedian, Kalybos, has shared an inspiring story about how a spontaneous act of kindness in 2016 unexpectedly landed him a cheque worth GH₵100,000.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with journalist Kwame Dadzie, he recounted the moment he was caught in heavy traffic on the Osu road when a nearby vehicle pulled up with excited children who recognised him.
“One time I was in a heavy traffic on the Osu road and a car pulled up by my side and I could see he had gone to pick up his kids. And they saw me. So they were all happy about it. They wanted to take a picture and the father told them they were in traffic. I watched ahead of me and realised the traffic was heavy, so I got down from my car, and asked if I could sit at the back, and I sat at the back. We took pictures, the man was just shocked and was looking at me. And he took my number,” he narrated.
According to Kalybos, the children’s father was so moved by his humility that he took his number and reached out a few days later. During their conversation, the man shared that his children had once been snubbed by a popular actress at a mall, which made Kalybos’ warm gesture even more meaningful to them.
“He invited me to his office for a chat. After the meeting, he handed me an envelope. Something told me to open it right away and when I did, I saw a cheque for one hundred thousand Ghana cedis. The biggest free ‘pro bono’ money I’ve ever received.”
Kalybos added that he used the unexpected gift to buy his second car.
Best known for his breakout role alongside Ahoufe Patri in Boys Kasa, Kalybos has gone on to star in several popular Ghanaian films, including Kalybos in China, Amakye and Dede, and John and John. Beyond acting, he has worked on brand campaigns and remains one of Ghana’s most recognisable comedic figures over the past decade.
