A High Court in Accra has granted Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, bail for GHS30 million with two sureties to be justified.
The bail has been confirmed by lead counsel for Abu Trica Oliver Barker Vormawor in a social media post.
Abu Trica has been in NACOC custody for months now, following his arrest, undergoing processes for extradition to the United States to face charges.
On December 11, 2025, Frederick Kumi, a 31-year-old Ghanaian from Swedru, was arrested for his alleged involvement in an $8 million romance scam targeting elderly victims in the United States.
According to the indictment, Abu Trica was part of a criminal network that, since 2023, used Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to create fake identities and engage victims in online romantic relationships.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI Cleveland Division and is being prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Brian M McDonough for the Northern District of Ohio.
Ghanaian agencies that assisted in the case include the Attorney General’s Office, Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Ghana Police Service, Ghana Cyber Security Authority, Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), and the National Intelligence Bureau, among others.
