Maribor head coach Boštjan Cesar commended Ghanaian forward Benjamin Tetteh after his memorable debut goal salvaged a 1-1 draw against Mura in the Slovenian top-flight league at Mestni Stadion Fazanerija.

Tetteh, who recently joined Maribor on loan from French club FC Metz, scored in stoppage time, securing a crucial point for his new team.

The striker had previously joined Metz in a €1.8 million move from Hull City but struggled to make an impact in France, appearing 13 times last season without scoring.

After Metz’s relegation to Ligue 2, the loan to Maribor offers Tetteh a chance to regain his form.

Praising the forward’s efforts, Cesar said, “It’s great when a top player like Tetteh scores like that in his first match. He’s shown quality and works hard in training, though he’s still overcoming some physical issues.”

Cesar expressed optimism about Tetteh’s potential, noting, “He’s had his share of injury problems but is training with full effort, and his fitness is improving.

We’ll gradually give him more minutes.” The Ghanaian forward’s positive start has reinforced Maribor’s confidence in his comeback, with both club and coach hopeful for his impact this season.
