Medeama SC returned to winning form with an impressive 2-0 triumph over Bibiani Gold Stars in a thrilling Western derby at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium on Sunday, November 17, 2024.

After enduring consecutive defeats, Medeama entered the match under significant pressure to secure a positive result.

Their strong recent record against Gold Stars—two victories and a draw in their last three encounters—added anticipation to the encounter.

The home side wasted no time stamping their authority on the game, with Derrick Fordjour scoring just two minutes after kickoff.

The early goal energized Medeama and caught the visitors off guard, setting the tone for the match.

Despite coming into the fixture on an impressive 10-match unbeaten streak, Bibiani Gold Stars struggled to find a response. Medeama’s disciplined defensive setup held firm, frustrating the league leaders and preserving the hosts’ advantage until halftime.

The second half saw Medeama extend their lead through a stunning strike by Kelvin Nkrumah, who left the Gold Stars goalkeeper helpless with his brilliant finish.

This second goal sealed a vital victory for the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League champions.

With the win, Medeama climbs to fifth in the league standings with 18 points, reigniting their season’s campaign. Meanwhile, Gold Stars, now second with 20 points, saw their unbeaten run come to an end.

Medeama will aim to capitalize on this momentum in their upcoming matches, while Gold Stars will seek to bounce back and reclaim their position at the top of the table.
