NDC Presidential candidate congratulates new Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin

The former President of Ghana and flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has congratulated the newly sworn-in Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin but has called for Parliament to investigate the incident of ballot paper snatching by Tema West MP Carlos Ahenkorah.

Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin is the immediate former Member of Parliament for Nadowli- Kaleo Constituency and the second deputy Speaker of the 7th Parliament.

Bagbin who was sponsored by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was the second deputy speaker of the just ended 7th Parliament.

He garnered a total vote of 138 whiles the NPP's candidate Prof. Aron Mike Oquaye  got 136 votes which was clearly not enough.

The total 275 elected members voted and there was one spoilt ballot, which gave the NDC man the urge as the speaker for the 8th Parliament.

The 8th Parliament begins immediately on the 7th of January 2021 after his swearing in by the Chief Justice.

Flagbearer of the NDC in the last election,John Mahama took to his twitter handle to congratulate Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament, Alban K.S Bagbin.

"Congratulations Rt. Hon. Alban Sumani Kingsford Bagbin on your election as the Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic," he said.
