NPP not afraid of Bagbin as Speaker – Sammi Awuku
8th January 2021
National Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic (NPP), Sammi Awuku says his party is not scared about the election of Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as the Speaker of Parliament though he admitted it’s a temporary setback.
The party’s National Council earlier this week settled on former two-term Dome-Kwabenya MP who served as the Second Deputy Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament between 2009 and 2013 as Speaker of Parliament for the second time.
But this was never to be as parliament in a rather shocking turn of events voted for the immediate-past Second Deputy Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as the speaker for the Eight Parliament
According to Sammi, the NPP will re-organize, reshape and shake itself up and deliver in parliament.
“The NPP is not perturbed, we are not scared about this whole arrangement. Yes it is a temporary setback; we will re-organize ourselves, reshape it and shake ourselves up and deliver in parliament.
Speaking in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the astute former youthful national organizer said he believes Rt. Hon. Bagbin will put his political lenses down and live up to expectation in a bipartisan way despite coming from the NDC.
“I don’t see the Honorable Alban Bagbin as mischievous character. This is someone who has distinguished himself in Parliament for almost three decades”, he pointed out.
“To the admiration of all, if he continues with the way he started, I am convinced he will proved even his skeptics wrong and his fiercest critics wrong that he is there to do the job of the Ghanaian people, not to do the job of a partisan group”, he further said.
