OFFICIAL: Alban Bagbin sworn-in as Speaker of Ghana's 8th Parliament

Former Member of Parliament for Nadowli West Hon Alban Bagbin has won the Speaker Of Parliament position after a secrets ballot voting was held.
Bagbin who was sponsored by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was the second deputy speaker of the just ended 7th Parliament.
He garnered a total vote of 138 to defeat his close contender Prof Mike Oquaye who got 136 votes.
The total 275 elected members voted and there was one spoilt ballot, which gave the NDC man the urge as the speaker for the 8th Parliament.
The 8th Parliament begins immediately on the 7th of January 2021 after his swearing in by the Chief Justice.
His Oath of Office was conducted by the Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Anin Yeboah before he also sworn-in Members of Parliament-elect to herald the start of the eight Parliament of the fourth republic.
His swearing in comes before that of the president, which will be held later in the house and will be presided by the Speaker.
