Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacked by Turkish giants Beşiktaş
28th August 2025
Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been relieved of his duties as head coach of Beşiktaş following the club’s early exit from European competition.
The 52-year-old Norwegian, who took charge of the Istanbul outfit in January 2025, guided the team to a fourth-placed finish in the Turkish Super Lig last season. However, Thursday’s UEFA Conference League play-off defeat to Swiss side Lausanne proved costly, ending Beşiktaş’ hopes of playing in Europe this season.
In a statement, the club confirmed his dismissal:
“Our contract with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been terminated following a decision made at a board meeting. Following the meeting, our chairman, Serdal Adalı, thanked Solskjaer for his services to date.”
The club had already endured disappointment earlier in the summer after being knocked out of the Europa League qualifiers by Shakhtar Donetsk.
Reports in Turkey suggest that Nuri Şahin, the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder and ex-Antalyaspor manager, is being strongly considered as Solskjaer’s replacement.
