One arrested in Tamale over suspected narcotic drugs
26th December 2025
One suspect is in police custody in the Northern Region for allegedly possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority.
The suspect, identified as Mohammed Alhassan, 28, was arrested by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at about 12:30 p.m. in Kpalsi, a suburb of Tamale.
According to a police statement, the arrest followed a distress call from the Tamale Task Force, which intercepted 98 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be cannabis during an operation in the area.
The statement said the Task Force initially arrested a man identified as Hashim in possession of the suspected narcotics. During interrogation, Hashim allegedly mentioned Mohammed Alhassan as the person responsible for the drugs, leading to Alhassan’s arrest.
Hashim was initially released, while Mohammed Alhassan was handed over to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit for further investigations.
However, police said subsequent investigations revealed that Hashim was also involved in controlling the narcotics. He has since been reclassified as a suspect and is currently at large.
Police said efforts are underway to locate and arrest Hashim to assist with ongoing investigations.
Mohammed Alhassan is expected to be arraigned before court on Monday, December 29, 2025, to face charges of possession of narcotic drugs without lawful authority.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to fighting drug-related crimes and called on the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
