Otto Addo reflects on Black Stars' goalless draw against Sudan in AFCON Qualifier
11th October 2024
Ghana head coach Otto Addo shared his assessment following the Black Stars' frustrating goalless draw against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Despite controlling much of the game and creating several scoring opportunities, Ghana failed to find the back of the net, largely due to Sudan’s resilient defense and standout performance from their goalkeeper.
“Every team presents a challenge, and today Sudan defended well. Their goalkeeper was exceptional, but we should have been sharper and capitalized on our chances,” Addo commented.
The Black Stars dominated possession and looked threatening, particularly in the second half, but were unable to break down Sudan’s defense.
Addo acknowledged the frustration but remained critical of Sudan's overall performance, saying, “We created numerous chances, and I wouldn’t say Sudan played particularly well.
Their only positive was the point they earned. We need to focus on turning these matches into wins.”
With only two points from three games, Ghana now finds themselves in a difficult position, sitting third in Group F. Angola leads the group with six points, followed by Sudan with four points, while Niger trails with just one point.
Ghana must now shift their attention to the return leg against Sudan, set to take place on October 15 in Benina, Libya. A victory is crucial if the Black Stars hope to revive their chances of qualifying for AFCON 2025.
