PURC lowers electricity and water rates starting April 1
1st April 2026
Utility consumers across Ghana will see lower electricity and water bills starting Wednesday, April 1, 2026, following a downward revision of tariffs by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).
The Commission announced that electricity rates have been reduced by 4.81 percent, while water charges have dropped by 3.06 percent for the second quarter of the year. The new rates take effect immediately as part of PURC’s routine quarterly tariff review.
According to the Commission, the adjustments were influenced by several economic factors, including fluctuations in the Ghana cedi-US dollar exchange rate, prevailing inflation, the composition of power generation sources, and fuel costs—particularly natural gas used in thermal power plants. PURC emphasized that the revisions are in line with its mandate to ensure utility prices reflect current economic conditions.
In a related development, PURC has introduced a new tariff framework for commercial Electric Vehicle (EV) charging services. This is the first such pricing structure in Ghana and aims to promote the adoption of cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions.
