Several feared dead in Kwashieman crash on Good Friday

A tragic road crash at Kwashieman in Accra has left several people feared dead following a violent collision between a passenger bus and a truck.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on Good Friday, April 3, when a Grand Bird bus travelling from Takoradi towards Sowutuom attempted to make a turn at the Kwashieman traffic light.

At the same time, a truck loaded with onions was approaching the intersection from the Lapaz direction, heading towards the Kasoa stretch.

Collision at intersection


According to reports, the truck was moving on an amber light when the bus driver proceeded with the turn. Despite repeated honking by the truck driver to alert the bus to clear the intersection, the two vehicles collided with significant force.

The impact pushed the truck off its path, causing it to veer into pedestrians who had gathered at the traffic light waiting to cross the road.

Chaotic aftermath


Eyewitnesses described the scene as devastating, with extensive damage and multiple injuries creating panic among bystanders.

The bus is reported to have been carrying passengers travelling to attend a convention.

Casualties unclear


Police say the severity of the crash has made it difficult to immediately determine the number of casualties, although several deaths are feared.

Investigations are currently underway to establish the exact circumstances leading to the crash.
