Spanish club Villarreal CF have confirmed the signing of Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey for the 2025/26 season, with an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

The 32-year-old will join up with the squad immediately at the club’s Ciudad Deportiva training complex, the “Yellow Submarine” announced on their official website.

“Villarreal CF and Thomas Partey have reached an agreement for the Ghanaian player to join the Yellows for the 2025/26 season. The player will join the team starting tomorrow at the Ciudad Deportiva,” the club said.

The announcement comes just days after Partey made his first appearance in a London court over allegations of rape and sexual assault involving three women.

In a statement, Villarreal acknowledged the ongoing legal proceedings:

“The club is aware that the player is involved in legal proceedings in England. The player staunchly maintains his innocence and denies all charges against him. The club respects his presumption of innocence as a fundamental principle and awaits the ruling of the court. Given British law regarding ongoing proceedings, the club will not comment further on this matter.”

Partey left Arsenal this summer after the expiration of his contract, having joined from Atlético Madrid in 2020. Despite talks over a renewal, no agreement was reached.

During his time in north London, Partey made 167 appearances, scoring nine goals and helping the club to an FA Community Shield. He enjoyed his most productive season in 2024/25, featuring 52 times and contributing four goals and three assists.

The move to Villarreal sees the Black Stars midfielder return to Spain, where he first made his name with Atlético Madrid, and secures his wish to play in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Linked with clubs in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in Europe, Partey instead opted for the La Liga side, who see him as a key figure in their bid for success both domestically and on the continental stage.
