Sudan not superior to Black Stars despite defeat - Kwame Opare Addo

Kwame Opare Addo, Communications Director for Ghana Premier League giants, has insisted that Sudan is not a superior team to the Black Stars, despite Ghana's 2-0 loss in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The defeat took place at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Libya, leaving Ghana on the verge of missing out on AFCON qualification for the first time since 2004.
In a recent interview, Opare Addo praised the tactical adjustments made by Sudan’s coach, Kwesi Appiah, in the second half, but emphasized that this does not imply Sudan is a better team.
He noted that the match was evenly contested in the first half but shifted in Sudan’s favor after they exploited Ghana's weaknesses on the flanks.
“Sudan did something better than us on the day, but that doesn't mean their team is better.
The first half was balanced, but in the second half, they realized attacking from the flanks was key to breaking us down, and it worked,” he explained.
“Kwesi Appiah made adjustments after realizing his first-half mistakes, and that’s what punished Ghana.”
With Ghana now sitting at risk of not qualifying for AFCON 2025, the Black Stars must win their final matches against Angola and Niger while hoping Sudan stumbles in their remaining fixtures to keep their qualification hopes alive.
