Sudan were fortunate in AFCON qualifier draw - Otto Addo
11th October 2024
Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, believes that Sudan were fortunate to hold Ghana to a goalless draw in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In a hard-fought Group F encounter, the Black Stars dominated possession and created several chances, particularly in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net.
During the post-match press conference, Addo, a former Borussia Dortmund coach, expressed optimism despite the result, insisting that Sudan were lucky to escape with a draw and that Ghana still has a strong chance of qualifying.
"We played well, and defensively we were solid. We knew it would be tough because they had the crowd behind them, so we had to rely on counter-attacks. Unfortunately, our final execution wasn’t the best," Addo said.
Confident in his team’s capabilities, Addo added, "Ghana is better than Senegal, and since we are on top in the World Cup qualifiers and have won all our home games, we will qualify. This draw is still a huge boost for us."
The second leg between Ghana and Sudan is scheduled for Monday, October 14, 2024, at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benina, Libya.
