Sudan's assistant coach labels Ghana as group's toughest opponent, eyes AFCON qualification
10th October 2024
Sudan's assistant coach, Ignatius Osei Fosu, has described Ghana as the toughest team in their group ahead of their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
Despite this challenge, he remains optimistic about Sudan's chances of reaching the main tournament.
The Falcons of Jediane will face the Black Stars on Thursday in match-day 3 of the qualifiers, a match expected to be highly competitive.
Sudan began their campaign with a vital 1-0 win over Niger, thanks to Abo Eisa's 51st-minute goal.
However, they suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat against Angola in their second match, despite putting in an impressive performance.
In the pre-match press conference, Osei Fosu acknowledged Ghana's strength but also expressed confidence in Sudan's standing within the group, highlighting their AFCON-winning history.
“Ghana is the biggest team in the group, but Sudan is next. Sudan has won AFCON before, and we believe we can overcome the others. It’s the heart of the players and the brilliance of Kwesi Appiah that’s making the difference for us,” he said.
The first leg of this pivotal doubleheader is set to take place at 16:00 GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium today.
