27th November 2024
The Mpraeso Circuit Court has granted bail to 27 people who were remanded in connection with the alleged kidnapping of the Abetifihene, Kwahu Adontenhene Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III.
The suspects, including 25 men and two women, were granted GH₵20,000 bail each with two sureties, one of whom must be justified.
This occurred when they appeared before the court, presided over by Her Ladyship Adwoa Akyemaa Ofosu, on Wednesday.
They are, however, expected to reappear on December 19, 2024.
Speaking to Adom News after the proceedings, the counsel for the accused, Nkrabea Effah Dartey, expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision.
Meanwhile, Nana Saka Darko, who spoke on behalf of the Abetifi palace, also stated that they are not against the bail but hope for a fair verdict at the end.
The men, initially thought by residents to be National Security operatives, were said to have been led by Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, the Abrewatia of Kwahu, to the Abetifi Palace, where they detained Asiedu Agyemang III on November 7, 2024.
