An inter-denominational Thanksgiving Service has been held at the Ghana Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to climax the 62nd anniversary of Ghana’s independence commemoration in the East African country.

It was attended by Ghanaians and other foreign nationals in Addis Ababa and other nearby cities and was presided over by the National Head of the Church of Pentecost in Ethiopia, Rev. Amishadai Dwomoh Amankwah.

The service is said to be the first of its kind at the Ghana Mission in Addis Ababa.

Preaching the sermon, Rev. Amankwah who spoke on “Excellence”, urged Ghanaians to exhibit what he called purposeful lifestyle.

He challenged Ghanaians to eschew pride and corruption but rather embrace self-discipline, benchmark against the best and be focused.

“These are what is required of us as citizens to build on the gains made by our forefathers when they struggled for independence for us”, Rev. Amankwah told the congregation.

Ghana’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union and the UN Economic Commission for Africa, H.E AmaTwum-Amoah expressed gratitude to God for protecting Ghana.

She said while government under the leadership of President Akufo Addo is spearheading massive economic transformation, citizens would also be required to guard the freedom, peace and unity the country enjoys.

She told the congregation; the thanksgiving service has been institutionalised to recognise divine provision and protection over the nation Ghana and her citizens.
