Tourism Minister Hon. Catherine Afeku: ‘We’re instituting policies to boost tourism in Axim'

Axim is one of the quiet places in the Western Region of Ghana gifted with nature beautiful creations such as beaches and wonderful resorts.
Until recently, many people did not know the place is impregnated with beautiful beaches and resorts for relaxation and leisure.
The magnificent setting of the place with sumptuous natural air to cool off is under the threat of human activities such open defecation and littering.
Being the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Catherine Afeku has assured Ghanaians that her outfit is putting in place measure to make the place more lively and serene for tourists.
“First, we need to bring the tourists and the second is to stop open defecation. As beautiful as you see the Axim Beach Resort, there are still challenges as people are openly defecating at the beaches. So we have started a task force and they will come around and start the construction of decent toilet facilities around the beaches. We are also employing young people as tourism task force to stop people from openly defecating around,” she told GHANAguardian.com
“We are of the belief that there must be a solution first before punitive measures are implemented. So we are starting the construction of the facilities first before we spell out punishment to offenders. The contractor is set to be in town this week and work begins thereof,” she added.
“After these, we will put in place the beach patrol teams who will ensure there is serenity along the beaches. Then, we put in place the beach mariners and the hotels to attract the tourists,” she noted further.
The Axim Beach resort is just one of the three major tourist and relaxation centers in Axim, with the Lou Moon Lodge and the Ankobra Beach Resort also providing tourists wonderful moments.
