The very much anticipated UEFA Champions League final between Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain came into play at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany where all eyes were gazed upon.

The Saturday night, May 31, 2025 marked an illustrious day in the history books for Paris Saint-Germain as they clinched their first ever UEFA Champions Leaugue title after being eluded the coveted trophy some five years back. They came up strongly even in the Group phase as they were touted as one of the underdogs due to how they begun their journey in the championship.

However, PSG proved everyone wrong with an incredible run in the Champions League, beating the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Aston Villa to reach that mark; an impressive run spearheaded by manager, Luis Enrique.

PSG became the first ever club to score five unanswered goals in a Champions League final and was at the expense of 2023 finalists, Inter Milan; the score line was an emphatic one and would linger forever.

From the blast of the whistle on the first minute, PSG had their strengths outweighing that of Simone Inzaghi’s side in various areas of the game, including their attacking prowess— leading to PSG having their attackers combining so perfectly to score the opener within the first quarter of an hour.

On the twelveth minute, Moroccan international, Achraf Hakimi had already scored the opener for the French champions in Munich, changing the atmosphere at the Allianz Arena into an all round Paris chants by the unflinching crowd with a brilliantly executed tap-in goal after a well built-up movement from the team and finally being assisted by the youngster, Désiré Doué.

It did not take long for the 19-year-old red-hot attacker, Doué, to double the lead for PSG after creating the first goal for the French champions. Doué hit a half volley from a Dembele pass across the left wing that ricocheted Inter left-back, Di Marco in went past the experienced Yann Sommer to increase Inter’s deficit to two. The French youngster made history by becoming the youngest ever player to score and assist in a Champions League final.

PSG went on and took the game to Inter, outplaying them and thumping them in diverse ways in Munich. The Italian outfit became vulnerable on the night and could not respond to the pressure and merciless attacks of the electrifying PSG team.

Before the end of the first half, Inter Milan head coach, Simone Inzaghi went into his usual element which initially led him to being dismissed in the penultimate game of the Italian Serie A game against Lazio when he received a red card which rendered him dismissed for the final league game against Como. His actions on the Champions League final attracted a yellow card, cautioning him for overreactions.

In the second half, Inter came hungry, attacking as hard as they could, using the flanks against PSG and launching in some decent crosses to possibly get some goals to cancel the deficit but resulted to nothing. Inter kept pushing forward but Luis Enrique and his charges kept neutralizing the pressure from Inter as they were arguably the best on the night.

Pressure kept piling on both sides as it was squared tactically by both managers for a host of moments before Doué added more salt to Inter’s woes as he hit the brace on the night with a well-struck shot to put PSG three up. Exactly ten minutes after the brace, Georgian international, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia scored the fourth after he broke Inter’s defense with a powerful run and slotted in a beauty with a left-footed shot that saw Sommer becoming helpless.

On the 86th minute, youngster, Senny Mayulu, who came on as a substitute scored the fifth goal of the game with just two minutes after his introduction as a finished off a well built-up movement from the Parisian boys. The 19-year-old cemented the victory with his goal as he also etched his name in history books as one of the youngest to score in the Champions League final.

Luis Enrique, the mastermind behind the success of PSG in the 2024/2025 Champions League season became one of the on seven (7) managers to have won the Champions League trophy with two different clubs, joining the elite group of managers to achieve such success. He won Barcelona’s last ever Champions League title ten years ago in 2015 with the likes of Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Neymar and Suarez spearheading the success at the expense of Juventus in the final.

The victory marked PSG’s first ever Champions League title after being eluded in the previous final back in 2020.
