UG senior staff demand payment of outstanding Tier-2 pension contributions

The Senior Staff Association of the University of Ghana is demanding the payment of their outstanding Tier-2 contributions of their retired colleagues.
“As a matter of urgency, we expect the Government to pay the outstanding Tier-2 contributions of our retired colleagues as well as announce a financial package for senior staff of public Universities.”
In a statement released by the union, they commended the government for their early help to them and also asked that they address their grievances with urgency.
“While commending the Hon. Minister of Education; the Executive Secretary of the National Council on Tertiary Education; and the Executive Secretary of Fair Wages and Salaries Commission for the diverse roles they played, culminating in the issuance of the Collective Bargaining Certificate to our Union, we call on same, and by extension Government, to expedite action on our grievances.”
Speaking on Eyewitness News, the National Chairman of the Senior Staff Association- University of Ghana Zacharia Mohammed stated that: “the government was able to pay the Tier-2 contributions from 2017 to June 2020 but still owes an out standing arrears from 2010- 2016.”
“The issue is that from 2010-2016, a lot of the members have gone on retirement but have not received their contributions sp we expect government to do the needful.”
The Senior Staff Association of Public Universities in Ghana (SSA-UoG) earlier expressed unhappiness with what they called the snail pace of negotiations with the government.
The union had in October threatened to embark on a strike over the failure of the government to address the concerns of the association.
Their demands included the award of a market premium, the payment of Tier 2 arrears from 2010-2016, and the restoration of migration of payroll of Public Universities unto the Controller and Accountant General’s Payroll System.
