VIDEO: Adom Kyei Duah's church members attack Pottersville church over sobolo criticism

A group of worshippers believed to be members of Bishop Stephen Adom Kyei Duah’s Philadelphia Movement stormed the Pottersville Church in Accra to demonstrate against comments made by its leader, Bishop Sam Owusu.
The confrontation followed Bishop Owusu’s public remarks condemning Bishop Adom Kyei Duah, founder of the Believers Worship Centre, for allegedly marketing bottles of sobolo (a locally brewed hibiscus drink) to congregants at exorbitant prices under the claim that it carries the power of the blood of Jesus.
In a sermon that has since gone viral, Bishop Owusu alleged:
“There’s a preacher selling sobolo in different sizes. Some cost GH₵5,000, some GH₵10,000, and the cheapest goes for GH₵500. Followers are even urged to buy five or ten bottles at once.”
He argued that such practices enrich preachers who exploit their congregations, while those who uphold biblical teachings often struggle financially.
The remarks sparked outrage among members of the Philadelphia Movement. In a video circulating on TikTok, scores of them were seen massing up at the Pottersville Church, visibly angry over what they described as false accusations against their spiritual leader.
One woman among the protesters warned: “We will not allow anyone to insult our father [Bishop Adom Kyei Duah] and go free.”
As tensions escalated, officers of the Ghana Police Service were dispatched to the church premises to maintain order and prevent violence.
The incident highlights the deepening divisions within Ghana’s charismatic Christian community, where debates over the sale of religiously branded items — such as oils, water, and now sobolo — continue to spark controversy.
