Asante Kotoko secured a historic Ghana Premier League double over their fierce rivals, Hearts of Oak, for the first time since 1987.

A superb brace from Steven Desse Mukwala led the Porcupine Warriors to a 2-0 victory at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

The Ugandan forward opened the scoring as early as the 9th minute with a precise strike that left goalkeeper Kwesi Nketiah helpless.

Mukwala sealed the win with a brilliant solo effort three minutes into injury time, ensuring maximum points for Kotoko and the coveted bragging rights.

This victory follows Kotoko's thrilling 3-2 win in their first league encounter back in December 2023, marking a season sweep over their arch-rivals.

The win bolsters coach Dr. Prosper Nartey Ogum's unbeaten record against Hearts of Oak and propels Kotoko up to 9th place in the league standings.

In contrast, Hearts of Oak find themselves perilously close to the relegation zone, sitting 14th with just 38 points, a mere two points above the drop.

The celebration in Kumasi is expected to be exuberant as Kotoko fans revel in their team's triumph.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak face a daunting task with only three matches remaining in what has been an incredibly challenging season for the Phobians.

With the threat of relegation looming, Hearts of Oak must regroup quickly to avoid an unthinkable end to their campaign, while Kotoko enjoys the spoils of a well-fought victory.
