WAFU B Girls Cup: Black Princesses fall short to Nigeria in final
11th November 2025
Ghana’s Black Princesses concluded their 2025 WAFU B U20 Girls’ Cup campaign with a 3–0 defeat to Nigeria’s Falconets in the final on Tuesday, November 11, at the Stade de l’Amitié in Benin.
Despite a spirited run, Coach Charles Sampson’s side couldn’t overcome the Falconets, who had also beaten Ghana in the group stage.
This was how the journey went for the Black Princesses in the 2025 WAFU B Girls Cup in Benin:
- Wins: 2 (both vs Benin)
- Losses: 2 (both vs Nigeria)
- Goals Scored: 4
- Goals Conceded: 6
Coach Sampson made three changes to the starting XI for the final, introducing Theresa Darko, Mary Amponsah, and Fatima Fuseini. Ghana created chances through Amponsah, Linda Owusu Ansah, and Sarah Nyarko, but couldn’t convert.
“We came close, but couldn’t finish. It’s a learning curve for the girls,” Sampson noted post-match.
What is Next for the Princesses
Despite the loss, the tournament offered valuable experience, tactical growth, and a glimpse into Ghana’s next generation of women’s football talent. The team will now regroup ahead of continental qualifiers and future youth competitions.
