Head coach of the Ghana national football team, Otto Addo, has expressed confidence in his side’s ability to compete with the Austria national football team ahead of their international friendly on Friday.
The match, set to be played at the Ernst Happel Stadium, marks the first of two friendlies for Ghana this month as preparations intensify for upcoming international assignments.
Speaking on Thursday, Addo acknowledged the strength and style of the Austrian side but insisted his team is ready for the challenge, even away from home.
“It will be an interesting game. I am expecting an intense game, as all Austria matches are,” he said.
Austria, coached by Ralf Rangnick, are known for their physical, high-tempo approach, with several players competing at top European clubs.
Addo admitted the test would be demanding but maintained that Ghana has the quality to match their opponents.
“We know they are very good, very physical, a very high-intensity team, and they run a lot. The profile of their players is really high because they play in good clubs, but we also have good players,” he added.
The fixture provides a key opportunity for the Black Stars to measure themselves against European opposition as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The tournament will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, with Ghana aiming to build momentum ahead of the global showpiece.
