We’re engaging IPPs to avert possible power cuts – ECG

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured the public of uninterrupted power supply after successfully negotiating with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) over outstanding arrears.

The assurance comes in the wake of threats by IPPs to shut down multiple power plants over unpaid debts, raising fears of a resurgence of widespread power outages, commonly known as dumsor.

Addressing the media, ECG’s External Communications Manager, Nii Ayiku, confirmed that the negotiations had averted the looming crisis.

“The Acting Managing Director has assured that we are in full engagement with the IPPs to ensure the outages experienced over the weekend do not persist. We are confident that everything will fall into place,” he stated.

The government has reportedly reached a temporary agreement with the IPPs, settling part of the arrears and outlining a payment plan for the remaining balance.

This move is expected to stabilize electricity generation and ease tensions in the energy sector.

While ECG has pledged consistent power supply, industry stakeholders have urged the government to establish a sustainable financial framework to prevent future disputes and safeguard Ghana’s energy reliability.
