108th anniversary: Hearts of oak launch the Grand Hearts Gathering
17th October 2019
Accra hearts of oak has officially launched the Grand Hearts Gathering, a project to mark the club's birthday of 11th November.
The project, which is being organised by the National Chapters Committee in partnership with OMY TV, comes with loads of activities to mark the 108th anniversary of the Accra-based club.
It is going to be a week-long celebration from the 8th to 16th of November, bringing together all members of the Phobian fraternity.
Speaking at Wednesday's event at accra sports stadium, CEO of the club Mr Fredrick Moore commended the supporters leadership for their effort in giving the club a befitting anniversary celebration.
He called all supporters to get involved with the event, which is the first of it's kind.
"...everybody is involved to make it a great one because after all is probably going to be the first time," he said.
"But that is not surprising because we'v been the first.
"And I know with your support and the support of the board, and the board chairman, we are going to get back to our glory days."
November 11th has always been a great date Hearts of oak's calendar as it marks a day in the year 1911 when some eleven men from the nation's capital came together to form what has become the oldest surviving football club in the country.
According the PRO of the NCC, the Grand Hearts Gathering is a paradigm shift to the way the club wants to celebrate it's birthday.
"In previous years, we'v c had to celebrate this great day in a relatively simple way" he told ghanaguardian.com.
"Apart from our centenary celebration in 2011, all our other birthday celebration has been done by being at the club's secretariate, but some drinks and have some little fun.
"But moving forward, the new NCC want to use the day as part of our brand-building tool to take the club to the higher heights".
The celebration will begin with a visit to the Chief Imam's Dr Shaikh Nuhu Sharubutu to seek divine blessings and will be climaxed with a mega musical performance at the trade Fair Centre in Accra.
Other activities include quiz competitions among the supportrs and a donation to an orphanage.
