2025 AFCON: Champions Senegal rewarded with cash and lands by President Faye
21st January 2026
Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph has been met with an extraordinary show of appreciation at home, after President Bassirou Diomaye Faye announced a record reward package for the Teranga Lions following their success at AFCON 2025.
In a move that underlined the national significance of the victory, the Senegalese head of state approved incentives valued at about $6.2m, alongside the allocation of 68,000 square metres of land to players, coaches and members of the national team delegation.
The rewards come after Senegal beat hosts Morocco 1-0 in a dramatic final in Rabat, securing their second continental title and cementing their status as one of Africa’s dominant football nations.
Under the package, each member of the playing squad will receive $135,000 in cash as well as a 1,500 square-metre plot of land on the picturesque Petite Côte, a popular coastal area south of Dakar.
Members of the technical team, who guided the Lions of Teranga through another memorable tournament, will receive $90,000 each and a 1,000 square-metre plot, while other delegation members are set to benefit from $35,000 and a 500 square-metre parcel of land.
The scale of the gesture reflects the pride generated by Senegal’s AFCON success, which sparked celebrations across the country and among Senegalese communities abroad.
President Faye’s decision also continues a long-standing tradition in Senegal of honouring sporting excellence, particularly football achievements that unite the nation and elevate its global profile.
For the players, many of whom described the title as a victory “for the people”, the rewards serve as both recognition of past success and motivation for future challenges, including World Cup qualification campaigns ahead.
As the celebrations continue, Senegal’s AFCON 2025 triumph is now etched not only in football history, but also in the country’s collective memory, marked by medals, memories, and a reward package that matches the scale of the achievement.
