Captain of the Ghana national football team, Jordan Ayew, has revealed that becoming the leader of Ghana’s senior national team was never something he had planned.
Speaking in an interview on Fire-for-Fire on Adom TV ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the forward described the captaincy as a dream he continues to embrace with humility.
“I am still living my dream, and I don’t know when it will end,” Ayew said.
“I never thought I would become a captain because it was never in my mind. I believe in destiny, and I am still hoping for more,” he said.
Ayew’s leadership has come at a time of renewed optimism for the Black Stars. The 34-year-old played a crucial role in Ghana’s successful qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup, contributing 14 goal involvements, seven goals and seven assists to help secure the nation’s place at the tournament.
Despite his experience, Ayew remains one of the team’s most dependable players, combining leadership with consistent attacking contributions during the qualifiers.
At the World Cup, Ghana, four-time African champions have been drawn in Group L alongside England national football team, Croatia national football team, and Panama national football team.
The tournament will take place across United States, Mexico, and Canada.
After group-stage exits at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Ayew and his teammates are determined to produce a stronger showing when the global tournament kicks off in North America.
