Captain of the Ghana national football team, Jordan Ayew, has expressed confidence in the current squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the team that secured qualification has what it takes to compete without major additions.

‎Ghana recently booked their place at the tournament, which will be hosted across United States, Mexico, and Canada. Since qualification was confirmed, several players have reportedly shown interest in returning to the national team setup.

Among them is Jordan’s elder brother, Andre Ayew, who has not featured for the Black Stars in the past three years.

However, speaking in an interview on Fire-for-Fire on Adom TV, Ayew said he believes the players who fought through the qualification campaign deserve the opportunity to represent Ghana at the tournament.

‎“I think the players who played during the qualifiers have done extremely well. I don’t think we need any additions. I believe we have a good team and, as time goes on, we are improving,” he said.

The Leicester City forward also highlighted the growing unity within the squad despite limited time together in camp.

‎“We haven’t had much time to train together, but the unity is getting better, and everything is improving,” he added.

Ayew noted that introducing significant changes at this stage may not be ideal, although he acknowledged that the final decision rests with head coach Otto Addo and his technical team.

‎“I don’t think this is the right time to make changes. But to be honest, on the technical side, the coach will know whom to add or select. Whoever is added must be ready to give their all and put on a show,” he said.

At the World Cup, Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England national football team, Panama national football team, and Croatia national football team.

The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on 17 June, before facing England on 23 June and Croatia on 27 June.

As part of their preparations, Ghana are expected to hold a training camp in March with friendly matches scheduled against Austria national football team and Germany national football team. Additional warm-up games are also planned against Mexico national football team in May and Wales national football team on 2 June.

During the tournament, the Ghana squad will be based at Bryant University in the United States.

Making their fifth appearance at the World Cup, the Black Stars will be aiming to improve on their group-stage exits at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

‎Coach Otto Addo is expected to announce Ghana’s final squad for the tournament on 1 June, as the country prepares for another shot on football’s biggest stage.
