The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested around 50 Nigerian nationals during a targeted operation at McCarthy Hills in the Ga South Municipality, Greater Accra Region, following intelligence on suspected human trafficking and cybercrime activities in the area.

A statement issued on Thursday, July 24, 2025, and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Immigration M. Amoako-Atta, Head of Public Affairs, confirmed the arrests and detailed the operation’s objectives.

According to the GIS, the operation was prompted by credible intelligence about the illegal presence of foreign nationals, some of whom were believed to have been trafficked into the country. Reports also indicated that these individuals were being coerced into participating in cyber fraud activities.
“The Ghana Immigration Service in the early hours of today, July 24, 2025, conducted a special operation at McCarthy Hills in the Ga South Municipality. The operation was based on intelligence gathered on the illegal stay of some foreign nationals in the area, some of whom were trafficked into the country and forced into cyber fraud by their facilitators,” the statement read.

Among those apprehended was the landlord of the apartment where the criminal activities were reportedly taking place. Authorities suspect the property served as a hub for the illegal operations.

The Immigration Service assured the public that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the trafficking and fraud network. Further updates will be shared as the inquiry progresses.
