Police in Asankragwa have arrested four suspected armed robbers following a robbery attack on two Chinese nationals during which a large sum of money and other valuables were stolen.

The suspects have been identified as Issaku Ibrahim, 42; Fatau Ali, 25; Yahaya Mumuni, 26; and Emmanuel Antwi, 22.

According to the Ghana Police Service, a search conducted after their arrest led to the retrieval of several items believed to be linked to the robbery.

These included two pump-action guns, a Bruni Mod 84 Cal. 9 PAK pistol with a magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition, an amulet or talisman, a machete, two CCTV decoders, 14 AA cartridges and three mobile phones.

Police also recovered cash amounting to GH¢198,200, believed to be part of the money stolen during the attack.

A police situational report indicated that the four suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue, with efforts underway to arrest another suspect believed to be on the run.

According to the report, one additional suspect was earlier arrested by community members and handed over to the police to assist with ongoing investigations.

How the robbery occurred


Police said the incident occurred on March 12, 2026, at about 6:30 pm, when Chen Zchao, a Chinese national living in an unmarked house at Malta, reported the robbery at the police charge office together with Christopher Opoku, who resides at the same address.

According to the complainant, he was at his spare parts shop with his younger brother, Yao Chan, when six armed men attacked them.

The suspects allegedly robbed them of three mobile phones and cash amounting to GH¢200,000, before fleeing the scene in a black Toyota Voxy vehicle heading toward Sefwi Bekwai.

Police pursuit and arrest


Following the report, the Asankragwa Night Patrol Team led by Inspector Stephen A. Bimpong, together with other officers, quickly mounted a pursuit.

Police also alerted officers at the Sumpre Police Checkpoint to assist in intercepting the suspects.

At about 8:00 pm, the black Toyota Voxy with registration number GS 756-25 approached the checkpoint. According to the report, the occupants abruptly opened the vehicle doors and attempted to flee on foot after spotting the police barrier.

However, officers at the checkpoint, working with the pursuing patrol team, chased and successfully arrested four of the suspects.

Police say investigations are ongoing as authorities work to identify and apprehend the remaining suspect involved in the robbery.
