1st December 2023
Ghanaian football legend Abedi Ayew Pele has expressed optimism that the Black Stars will soon break their long-standing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) drought and emerge victorious in the upcoming tournament.
Despite being four-time champions, Ghana's last AFCON triumph was in 1982 in Libya, where Abedi Pele was part of the winning squad at a young age.
In a recent interview, the three-time Africa's best player acknowledged Ghana's recent challenges, having lost the last three finals they reached.
However, he exuded confidence that the jinx will be broken soon, stating, "Well, we will win. There will be our chances. We’ve been to finals three times, and I think our chance will be maybe this time or in the next four years we will be there.”
Ghana secured their spot in the 2023 AFCON, marking their tenth consecutive qualification to the continent's premier football competition since 2006.
Abedi Pele's optimism provides hope for Ghana's football enthusiasts, and the legendary figure believes the Black Stars have a strong chance in the upcoming tournament.
Ghana has been drawn into Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
