Accra MPs should not take rent allowance- Dept. Housing Minister

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin Constituency in the Ashanti region,Hon. Eugene Antwi has indicated that, no MP Leaving in Accra should be rent allowance.

The Deputy Minister for Works and Housing said  “I believe no MP in Accra should be given rent allowance; Greater Accra MPs should not be given houses but those coming from outside of Accra can be given houses” adding “Before I became an MP, I was living in my own house in Accra so why should that change when I am given an appointment?”

Meanwhile, although it is not clear how much MPs take as rent allowance, in the erstwhile Mahama administration, it was alleged that all the 275 MPs took GHC 50,000 each as rent allowance.

Mr Opoku was speaking on Accra based radio station Peace FM when he made the statement.
