Achraf Hakimi makes history as Morocco dominates 2025 CAF Awards in Rabat

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the winners of the 2025 CAF Awards, with Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi crowned African Player of the Year in a landmark moment for both player and country.

Held at the prestigious Mohamed VI Polytechnic University in Rabat, the ceremony celebrated excellence across men’s, women’s, youth, and club football on the continent.

Hakimi, who enjoyed a stellar season with Paris Saint-Germain — winning the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and UEFA Super Cup — edged out Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen to claim the top honour.


  • First Moroccan to win the award since Mustapha Hadji in 1998

  • First defender to win African Player of the Year in 52 years (since Zaire’s Bwanga Tshimen in 1973)
