Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on President John Dramani Mahama to make the completion of the Afari Military Hospital in the Ashanti Region a top priority.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, Dr. Boakye-Danquah expressed frustration that the project, initially approved by Parliament in 2008, remains unfinished nearly 17 years later.

“It is unthinkable that the Afari Hospital is taking almost 17 years. It has transcended a lot of parliamentary sittings. Because it was approved in the Parliament of 2008, we are now in the ninth Parliament. Life is progressive and not retrogressive,” he said.

Dr. Boakye-Danquah emphasised the importance of completing the hospital, highlighting its critical role in providing advanced healthcare to the Ghana Armed Forces, who put their lives at risk to protect the nation.

“I would ask the government of the day, ‘let us redeem the image of the country’. It is troubling when this news is carried into the international world. It is troubling that for 17 years we have not been able to complete a hospital that can take care of the persons who sacrifice to protect our sovereignty,” he added.

The Afari Military Hospital project, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya South District, was designed to replace the aging 37 Military Hospital in Accra and relieve pressure on other healthcare facilities.

However, the project has faced repeated delays, with successive governments failing to bring it to completion.

Dr. Boakye-Danquah’s comments add to the growing calls from civil society groups and Ashanti Region residents who are urging the government to complete the hospital to address critical healthcare needs in the area.
