The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for unlawful possession of firearms following a targeted, intelligence-led operation carried out by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit.

The operation, which took place on Tuesday, July 9, 2025, focused on known criminal hideouts in Nweneso, Trabuom, and Nkwawie in the Atwima area.

It resulted in the arrest of Kwadwo Acheampong (21) and James Antwi Adjei (24).

According to an official police statement, a search of the premises led to the recovery of two pump-action shotguns—one bearing the serial number ASAO 2164 2021, and the other lacking any serial identification.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the firearms may have been stolen and were possibly being prepared for use in planned armed robbery operations targeting communities in the Atwima districts and the wider Kumasi metropolis.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators.

The seized weapons have been retained as evidential exhibits.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has reassured the public of its commitment to safeguarding communities and intensifying efforts to clamp down on criminal networks.

Authorities have pledged to provide further updates as investigations continue.
