The Bono Regional Police Command has dismissed allegations circulating in a viral video claiming a robbery took place on the Berekum–Drobo Road on November 18, stating that initial investigations reveal no such incident occurred.
According to the Command, all checks conducted so far show that no robbery complaint has been filed in relation to the supposed attack.
The video, which suggested travellers were ambushed by armed men, sparked public concern, but police say there is no evidence to support the claim.
Comprehensive inquiries across police stations in the Bono Region and nationwide, along with consultations with the Ghana Armed Forces, found no records of any robbery on the date in question.
“The preliminary checks, both locally and nationally, have shown that there have been no reports of a robbery in the area on the specified date,” the statement said.
In a release issued on November 20, the police urged anyone with credible information to report to the nearest station to aid accurate investigations. The Service emphasized that reliable details are key to establishing the facts.
The Police Service also confirmed that its Cyber Crime Unit has begun tracing the origins of the video, cautioning that individuals responsible for circulating false information will be prosecuted.
The Command further advised the public to verify information before sharing, noting that unconfirmed claims can cause unnecessary panic and disrupt public order.
