A registered sex offender in California has been arrested after allegedly engaging in a disturbing act at a department store in Burbank. Police say 38-year-old Calese Carron Crowder was taken into custody on Tuesday after surveillance footage appeared to show him sniffing a woman’s buttocks at a Nordstrom Rack located in the Burbank Empire Center.
According to the Burbank Police Department, officers responded to reports of a suspicious man loitering in the women's section of the store. By the time they arrived, Crowder had already left the premises. After a brief search, authorities located him nearby at a Walmart.
Video evidence reportedly shows Crowder crouching behind an unsuspecting woman and engaging in the lewd act. He was arrested and charged with one count of loitering with the intent to commit a crime.
Police confirmed that Crowder is a registered sex offender on parole, with a record of similar offenses dating back to 2021. Among his alleged past victims is Michaela Witter, who claims to have encountered Crowder in a Barnes & Noble store and posted a video of the incident on TikTok.
“I feel like the justice system is just neglecting everything,” Witter told reporters. “It’s crazy to think that someone like this, who’s constantly stalking and violating these people, is allowed to be out and about.”
Crowder is currently being held on $100,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
