Black Satellites head coach Desmond Ofei has expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance following their 2-2 draw against Benin in the ongoing 2024 WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship.

Despite not securing the maximum three points, Ofei highlighted the resilience displayed by his players in their opening game at the Stade de Kégué in Lomé.

The match saw Ghana take an early lead through Jerry Afriyie, who scored in the 13th minute.

However, the Young Cheetahs responded with two quick goals from Modeste Kounodji and Gabriel Moulero, giving Benin a 2-1 advantage at halftime.

In a dramatic finish, Afriyie converted a penalty to complete his brace and level the match in the dying moments.

In a post-match press conference, Ofei expressed contentment with the result, considering the team’s journey from near despair to securing a crucial point.

"With a bit of luck today, we should have gotten the three points, but all in all, I’m really happy with the one point.

Because for me, this one point is actually a three-point if you know what I mean.

How we had to think really deep and how that penalty came, so all in all, we’re very happy with the point," he said.

Looking ahead, the Black Satellites are set to face Niger in a crucial match on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the same venue, where they will be eager to secure a win.
