Frenzy in Ashanti Region as Bawumia completes nationwide tour in style
28th January 2026
Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia yesterday brought his nationwide campaign for the NPP Flagbearer to a close in the Ashanti Region.
In a frenetic climax, delegates in Sekyere Afram Plains, Kumawu, Efiduase and Manhyia North constituencies had the privilege of hosting the former Vice President on the final day of his campaign tour but it was those in the Northern part of Manhyia who sighed off the campaign in grand style.
In a frenetic fashion, delegates and members of the party welcomed Dr. Bawumia with rapturous reception and songs of approval.
Dr. Bawumia, who is highly tipped to win Saturday's contest, has been on the road for about four months now engaging stakeholders of the NPP.
His energetic campaign has taken him to all 276 constituencies acriss the country, with the exception of six constituencies in the Bawku Zone, which were under security restrictions at the time he toured the Upper East Region.
Dr. Bawumia's campaign has been praised for its organisation, as well as the clarity of his message, which is tailored towards party unity and rebuilding, as well as his vision for the transformation of the country.
Also, throughout his engagement with party stakeholders, Dr. Bawumia has prioritised policies and measures which he said, will address welfare concerns of members of the party, especially at the grassroot level - a serious issue raised by the Mike Oquaye Committee, which investigated reasons why the NPP lost the 2024 election.
As part of Dr. Bawumia's solution to the perennial problem, he has proposed to institute a database welfare system, which will register members of the party at local levels, acknowledge their efforts, register their needs and have those needs addressed proportionally.
To also address the exclusion of some constituencies, Dr. Bawumia has also proposed to grant each constituency a minimum of 10 appointments in a future NPP government, to ensure that no constituency is excluded from distribution of appointments to qualified members.
Again, to promote inclusive development in all constituencies, the former Vice President has also proposed to institute constituency-based national budget, which he has explained will allocate resources for development in every constituency.
Throughout his engagements with delegates across the country, Dr. Bawumia's campaign has been characterised by emphatic support and endorsements across board.
Key stakeholders of the party, including MPs, former MPs, MMDCEs, regional executives, constituency executives, electoral area coordinators, polling station executives, among others, have openly declared support for him in constituencies across the country.
Many independent surveys have also put Dr. Bawumia in pole position to be retained by party delegates as flagbearer of the NPP for the 2028 election.
